Connecting with Your Teen Through Family Ritual
Nov 28, 2022Years ago, I bought a book called "The Joy of Family Ritual." I wasn't raised religious (kind of an understatement, if you knew my dad 😂), but as a kid and a teen, I was obsessed with different religions. As an adult, I was drawn to rituals as a way of creating community and a sense of belonging, a way of making meaning and processing trauma, and a way of celebrating the things that often go uncelebrated or unacknowledged in our culture.
When I separated from my partner over a year ago, I leaned into ritual once again to bring healing to me and my kids, and to help create a sense of family to our newly reconfigured family unit.
One of my favorite rituals is the Family Gratitude Ritual. If you're looking for ways to connect with your teen, and to invite a practice (gratitude) that has been proven to be associated with all sorts of positive health benefits, I highly recommend this one. And I'm sharing it with you here!
